WILLIAMSBURG, Va. – The Elon University women's tennis team fought hard after losing the doubles point Saturday against William & Mary but ultimately came up short in a 5-2 defeat.

With the loss, the Phoenix fell to 12-9 on the season, while the Tribe improved to 13-6 with the victory. 
 
THE RUNDOWN

• William & Mary won the doubles point with wins at the Nos. 2 and 3 spots. 
• Sibel Tanik and Lizette Reding won 6-2 at the No. 1 doubles position. The victory was their 12^th of the season as they became Elon's winningest duo on the season. With the win, Reding now stands seventh alone on Elon's all-time Division I win list, while Tanik moved into a tie for eighth. 
• The Tribe won at the No. 3 singles spot to go ahead 2-0. 
• In her first appearance at No. 4 singles since March 15, Helen Sarikulaya defeated William & Mary's Alessandra Anghel 7-6, 6-3. It was the sophomore's 12^th victory this season and the fifth to come at the No. 4 spot. 
• Following a Tribe win at the No. 6 spot, Reding moved to 4-0 against conference opponents in singles this season with her eighth victory at the No. 1 spot. The senior beat Yu Chen 7-6 (7), 6-4 for the 53^rd win of her Elon career, moving her into a tie for the fifth most wins in the program's Division I history. 
• William & Mary won the final two completed matches to seal a victory. 

 
UP NEXT
Elon closes out its regular season against North Carolina A&T on April 19 at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center. The contest is scheduled for 2 p.m. and will be Senior Day for the Phoenix as the program honors Sibel Tanik and Lizette Reding in a ceremony prior to the match.
