Murdock Seals Elon Comeback Win Over Gardner-Webb

Boiling Springs, N.C.- For the first time this season, the Elon Phoenix (5-0) trailed in a match. The Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs (1-6-1) took a 1-0 into the break, but two second half goals lifted Elon past Gardner-Webb 2-1 Thursday night.

Isa Murdock continued her staggering start to the season, adding her fourth goal of the season in the 84th minute to grab the win. Gabby Hoschek tied up the game with a right-footed effort in the 56th minute.

How It Happened
  • The Phoenix continued to start fast with several efforts within the first 20 minutes. Shots from Hoschek, Ashlee Brehio and Ava Hellner were all handled, but the Phoenix continued to knock on the door.
  • Elon continued to pepper the goal with shots and shots on target before Gardner-Webb found a counterattack and buried just their second shot of the half.
  • Brehio nearly equalized with just over a minute left in the first half but could not find the target and Elon would enter the half trailing for the first time this season.
  • At the beginning of the half, Elon pilled on the pressure. Pushing players forward paid off with Gabby Hoschek finding the back of the net from the top of the box just six minutes into the second 45.
  • Not satisfied, Elon continued to go for the winner. Grace Gelhaus continued to put shots on target with Brehio nearly giving Elon the lead in the 71st minute.
  • After a flurry of corner kicks, Murdock sealed Elon's win with an 85th minute goal to help Elon capture their sixth win in a row dating back to last season.
