ELON – On the road last week, the Elon University volleyball team defeated Towson in a five-set battle, snapping the Tigers' 18-match winning streak.
Back at home, the Elon University women's soccer team earned a pair CAA victories, scoring seven goals across the two matches.
Each Monday, Rising Phoenix will preview the week ahead in Elon athletics. Here is a look at each Elon team competing this week.
Women's Soccer
The Elon University women's soccer team played two home matches last week, both ending in wins for the Phoenix. Elon scored seven total goals across the two matches, defeating Drexel 4-1 and Towson 3-1 on Senior Day. Senior Isa Murdock and junior Grace Gelhaus scored a goal in both games. Megan Dwyer, Talia Feigin and Miranda Dumornay added the other three, each of which marked their first goals of the season. The Phoenix will travel to face Hampton on Thursday at 12 p.m. before closing the regular season Sunday at Rudd against College of Charleston at 1 p.m. Elon is currently fourth in the CAA South standings and one point out of the final conference tournament spot in the division.
Volleyball
After falling in straight sets Saturday, the Elon University volleyball team stormed back to take down Towson 3-2 on Sunday, snapping the Tigers' 18-match winning streak. Senior outside hitter Clara Simmons led the way for the Phoenix with 18 kills, while graduate Simrin Carleson followed with 11 kills and 19 digs for her second straight double-double. Elon will host North Carolina A&T for two matches this weekend, the first on Friday at 3 p.m. and the second on Saturday at 6 p.m.
Football
The Elon University football team will continue its road stretch at Maine this Saturday for a game at 1 p.m. Against William & Mary last week, redshirt freshman quarterback Landen Clark was the team's leading rusher with 83 yards and one touchdown. Redshirt sophomore linebacker Brodie Carroll led the team in tackles with a season-high 13 while Kahmari Brown added three sacks.
Men's Soccer
After a 0-0 draw against College Charleston over the weekend, the Elon University men's soccer team clinched a spot in the CAA championship tournament. The shutout marked the team's ninth of the season, led by graduate student Jackson Leavitt in goal, who added three saves. Elon will face Campbell on the road on Saturday at 7 p.m. looking for a win after a 0-0 tie against the Camels at home earlier this season.
