HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – The Elon University volleyball team fell in straight sets at Hofstra (12-25, 16-25, 12-25) on Sunday afternoon at the David S. Mack Physical Education Center.

The Phoenix (4-11, 2-2 CAA) was led by
Clara Simmons, who recorded seven kills.
Cameron Lanier and
Catherine Rucker each added three kills.

Hofstra (11-2, 4-2) had two players finish in double figures in kills. Beatriz Braga tallied 12, while Izadora Stedile contributed 10.

THE RUNDOWN
- Hofstra jumped out to a 9-3 lead in the first set following a 5-0 run. Elon closed the gap to 11-7 on a Lanier kill, but the Pride answered with a 6-1 run to extend its lead to 17-8. Hofstra maintained control the rest of the way to take the opening frame, 25-12.
- The Pride used a 4-0 spurt to erase an early 3-2 Elon lead in the second set, moving ahead 6-3. A kill by Anna Sewell pulled the Phoenix within two at 9-7, but Hofstra responded with a 5-1 run to force a timeout at 14-8. The Pride later built a 19-10 advantage before Elon rallied with a 5-2 run to make it 21-15. Hofstra regrouped during a timeout and closed the set on a 4-1 run for a 25-16 decision.
- In the third set, Hofstra opened on a 4-0 run to take an 8-3 lead and force an early Elon timeout. The Phoenix pulled within three at 12-9, but the Pride answered again with a 4-0 surge to stretch its lead to 16-9. Elon was unable to recover as Hofstra completed the sweep.

NOTES AND STATS
- Hofstra improved its all-time record against Elon to 14-5 and remained unbeaten at home versus the Phoenix (10-0).
- Casey Brower made her first start of the season at libero and led Elon with seven digs.
