ELON – The Elon University football team's defense was on lock down this past weekend against Towson, holding the Tigers to three points in a 17-3 Phoenix victory. The team is now 2-0 in CAA play and will be back at Rhodes Stadium on Saturday for Homecoming.
Phoenix fans will have a busy weekend ahead of them, with four home games on Saturday and Sunday.
Each Monday, Rising Phoenix will preview the week ahead in Elon athletics. Here is a look at each Elon team competing this week.
Men's Golf
After three weeks of training, the Elon University men's golf team is back on the course, competing in the West Bay Collegiate Invitational in Estero, Florida. Jack Wieler, Landon Durham, Drew Yeagley, William Carr and Dylan Lewis round out the lineup for the Phoenix, with Martin Saquicoray and Bence Somogyi competing as individuals. Last time out, Yeagley led the team finishing tied for 18th place at an even 210.
Men's Soccer
Against No. 10 UNCG last week, the Phoenix defense, anchored by freshman Magnus Jacobsen and graduate student goalkeeper Jackson Leavitt, held strong to secure a 0-0 finish. Elon will travel to Durham on Tuesday for a match against Duke at 7 p.m. before returning to CAA play at home on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. against UNCW on Senior Night.
Football
Two CAA games have ended in two CAA victories for the Elon University football team, most recently with a 17-3 victory at Towson. Redshirt sophomore defensive back Tony Hart III led the team with eight tackles and 0.5 tackles for loss. Junior running back Jimmyll Williams led the offensive attack with 90 rushing yards and 62 receiving yards. Elon's two touchdowns were scored by sophomore running back TJ Thomas Jr. and junior running back Dan Frederick. Elon will host Villanova on Saturday at 2 p.m. for Homecoming.
Volleyball
The Elon University volleyball team returns home to Schar Center this weekend for two matches against Northeastern, one on Saturday at 7 p.m. and the second on Sunday at 3 p.m. Senior outside hitter Clara Simmons led the team in the kill column over the weekend at Hofstra with 16 over two matches.
Women's Soccer
Elon secured its first CAA victory in a 2-1 result at Campbell on Sunday night. Senior forward Ashlee Brehio scored her third goal of the season while junior defender Grace Gelhaus scored the game winner in the 85th minute to lead the Phoenix to victory. Elon will compete against Hampton on Sunday at 1 p.m.
