THE RUNDOWN
- Elon trailed 7-6 early in the opening set following a Rucker kill, but Campbell responded with a 5-0 run to take a 12-6 lead and force a Phoenix timeout. The Camels extended their advantage to 17-10 before Elon trimmed its deficit to five, 20-15, after a 5-3 spurt capped by blocks from Kyla Johnson and Carlsen. Campbell closed the frame on a 5-1 run to take the set, 25-16.
- The Phoenix started strong in the second set, jumping out to an 8-4 lead after a kill from Allie Schultz that prompted a Campbell timeout. Elon maintained a four-point advantage at 9-5 on a Carlsen kill, but the Camels answered with a 7-2 run to move ahead 12-11. After trading points, a Sewell kill brought the Phoenix within one before Campbell pushed its lead to 16-13, leading to another Elon timeout. The break did little to slow the Camels' momentum, as they extended their advantage to 21-14 and went on to take the set, 25-16.
- Elon again got off to a strong start in the third frame, scoring the first four points and leading 5-2. Campbell erased the deficit and became the first team to reach double digits, going up 10-8 before Elon tied the set at 12-all on a service ace from April Rice. The Camels began to pull away with a 6-1 run that forced a Phoenix timeout down 18-13. Elon trimmed the gap to three at 21-18, but Campbell limited the Phoenix to one more point to close out the set, 25-19, and complete the sweep.
