Rising Phoenix: This Week In Elon Athletics

ELON – Both men's and women's basketball teams are underway for the season, each taking home an overtime victory last week. 

On the pitch, Elon women's soccer took home the 2025 CAA Championship by defeating Stony Brook 1-1, 6-5 in penalty kicks.

Each Monday, Rising Phoenix will preview the week ahead in Elon athletics. Here is a look at each Elon team competing this week.

Women's Basketball
After defeating ETSU 65-56 in overtime to begin the regular season, the Elon University women's basketball team is set for its home opener on Monday at 11 a.m. The team will face Presbyterian in its annual Education Day game. Elon will stay home and face Howard on Saturday at 5 p.m. 

Men's Basketball
The Elon University men's basketball team has begun 2025 undefeated, taking down Belmont Abbey at home and UNCG on the road last week. In the 92-90 overtime victory against the Spartans, Kacper Klaczek and Chandler Cuthrell both earned double doubles. The Phoenix will travel to Huntington, West Virginia, to face Marshall on Wednesday at 7 p.m. before returning home to face Gardner-Webb on Saturday at 8 p.m.

Cross Country
Led by individual champion Katie Blount, the Elon University women's cross country team took home the 2025 CAA Championship. Along with Blount, Abby Beville, Hannah Weber, Kate Buerger, Sarah Petitjean, Jasmine Young and Quinn Smith finished in the top-15, qualifying for  All-CAA honors. The men's team finished seventh overall, led by senior Nate Mars with a personal best 25:02.4. Both teams will head back to Panorama Farms to compete in the NCAA Southeast Regional Championship on Friday at 10 and 11 a.m.

Men's Soccer
In the team's highest scoring game all season, Elon was victorious over Campbell 6-4 in the CAA semifinals. Jordin Wilson, Jahmir Flowers, Martin Kozak, Magnus Jacobsen, Dominik Renz and Charlie Kitch all scored in the win. Elon will host Stony Brook for the CAA Finals on Sunday, with the time still to be determined.

Volleyball
It was a successful Senior Weekend for the Elon volleyball team who earned two wins against UNCW. On Saturday's match, Anna Sewell posted a career-high 16 kills. Cameron Lanier followed that performance up with a career-high 18 kills on Sunday. Elon will face College of Charleston on Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m.

Football
The Elon University football team will travel to Buies Creek to face Campbell on Saturday at 2 p.m. Against Rhode Island last weekend, four Phoenix had ten or more tackles, with Tony Hart III leading the team with 12. Kahmari Brown had eight tackles and two sacks for 19 total yards lost. Jevean Brown posted 10 tackles, two tackles for loss and a sack.
