The Stony Brook Series
- Elon leads the series against Stony Brook, 3-1-0. All four of the matches have come since 2022.
- The Phoenix defeated the Seawolves in the lone postseason meeting between the teams. Elon won a CAA Tournament quarterfinal against Stony Brook on Nov. 2, 2023, in a match played at Monmouth.
- This will be Stony Brook's third time facing the Phoenix at Rudd Field. Elon won both the previous matches against the Seawolves at Rudd in the 2022 and 2024 regular seasons.
- Last season, Elon defeated the Seawolves at Rudd, 2-1, on Sept. 21, 2024. Scott Vatne and Charlie Kitch both scored for the Phoenix in the first 30 minutes and Elon held on in the second half for the win.
- This will be the first and only meeting this season between CAA North and CAA South foes.
Historic Semifinal Performance
- Elon, the No. 1 seed from the CAA South Division, defeated No. 2 seeded Campbell in a CAA Tournament semifinal, 6-4, at Rudd Field on Sunday.
- The six goals were the most scored in a match by Elon since scoring eight against Rutgers on Sept. 2, 2018, in an 8-1 victory over the Scarlet Knights.
- Elon's six goals were the most for the Phoenix at Rudd Field since Sept. 2, 2016, when Elon netted six against St. Bonaventure in a 6-0 win.
- Martin Kozak tallied six points (1g, 4a) to lead the Phoenix offensively. The four assists were the most in a single match in program history, while the six points were the most by a CAA player in a match this season.
- Elon had six different goal scorers, with Jordin Wilson, Jahmir Flowers, Magnus Jacobsen, Dominik Renz and Charlie Kitch joining Kozak on the scoresheet. It was the most different goal scorers for the Phoenix in a match in Elon's Division I era.
- Eight different Phoenix registered at least one point in the match. Einar Ness and Weston Jonke both recorded their first assist of the campaign in the win.
CAA South Champions
- Elon won the first CAA South regular season title this season, topping the division with 15 points.
- The Phoenix had won two of the last three regular season titles before the conference split into two divisions for men's soccer.
- Elon finished with the second most points among CAA teams in the regular season. Only Hofstra (21) had more than the Phoenix.
- The Phoenix went 4-1-3 in conference play during the regular season, picking up points in seven of eight conference matchups.
- Elon finished one point ahead of second-place Campbell and three points in front of third-place UNCW.
- The Phoenix defeated three of the four CAA South Division teams during the regular season, going 2-0-0 against UNCW and 1-0-1 against both College of Charleston and William & Mary.
Home Sweet Rudd
- The Phoenix is unbeaten on its home pitch this season and will look to cap an undefeated home slate Sunday.
- Elon went 5-0-3 at Rudd during the regular season, which included conference victories against Charleston, UNCW and William & Mary.
- The Phoenix picked up another home victory against Campbell in the CAA Tournament semifinals last weekend.
- The Phoenix did not concede a goal in any of its eight regular-season home contests.
- Elon's undefeated regular season at home was its first since 1988. This was Elon's first time going unbeaten at home in the regular season as a Division I program.
Elon In The CAA Tournament
- This is Elon's ninth appearance in the CAA Tournament since joining the conference in 2014. The Phoenix has qualified for five straight conference tournaments.
- Elon enters Sunday with a 4-6-2 all-time record in CAA Tournament matches. All four of the victories have come since 2021.
- This is Elon's third time advancing to the CAA championship match after previously qualifying in 2021 and 2022. Hofstra defeated in Elon in both finals.
- Sunday will be the seventh CAA Tournament match Elon has hosted. The Phoenix is 2-4-0 in the previous five contests. This will be the second CAA title match played at Rudd, with the other coming in 2022.
- This is be the second straight season and the third time in the last four years Elon has hosted at least one CAA Tournament match at Rudd.
- Head coach Marc Reeves has guided the Phoenix to all four of its CAA Tournament victories.
CAA Accolades
- Renz became the first Elon player to take home CAA Rookie of the Year last week as the conference unveiled its postseason awards.
- Jackson Leavitt represented Elon on the All-CAA First Team, with Renz, Connor Mucchetti, Kitch, Majaliwa Msabaha and Carlos Levy earning Second Team recognition. Kozak was selected to the All-CAA Third Team with Renz also landing on the All-CAA Rookie Team.
- Msabaha leads all Phoenix field players in minutes this season, playing 1,464 of a possible 1,530 minutes. This is Msabaha's first time on the All-CAA Second Team after making the Third Team in 2022 and 2023.
- Levy earned his first All-CAA recognition by making 14 starts this season. He played 1,127 minutes on Elon's backline and scored his first career goal in a victory at Radford.
- Kitch has now made the All-CAA Second Team in back-to-back seasons. He has appeared in 16 matches this season, making 10 starts and logging 927 minutes. He took home CAA Defensive Player of the Week honors on Oct. 13.
- Mucchetti has played 1,441 minutes in Elon's midfield this season, the second most among Elon field players. He has a pair of assists and went the full 90 minutes in 11 matches this season.
Top Drawer Recognition
- Msabaha and Leavitt both earned spots on October's Top Drawer Soccer Midseason Watchlist.
- Msabaha checked in at No. 33 with Leavitt ranked No. 39. They were the two highest ranked players from the CAA in the ranking and two of just three overall from the conference, along with Hofstra's Laurie Goddard.
- Msabaha has played a team-high 1,464 minutes in 17 matches this season, the most by an Elon field player. The senior defender has helped Elon to 10 clean sheets on the season.
- Leavitt has started every match in goal for the Phoenix this season and ranks top 15 nationally in goals against average (.547). The graduate student has 50 saves on the campaign to backstop the CAA's top scoring defense.
Defense, Defense, Defense
- Elon allowed just seven goals in its 16 regular season matches. The Phoenix has posted 10 clean sheets on the season, including a stretch of four in a row that came to an end on Sept. 20 at William & Mary.
- Elon is tied for fifth in the country in shutout percentage (0.588). The Phoenix has posted shutouts against five of its nine conference opponents, including four of the last six.
- The Phoenix leads the CAA and is No. 15 nationally in goals against average (0.547). Elon has allowed four fewer goals than the next best CAA team.
- Leavitt has played every minute in goal this season for the Phoenix. The All-CAA First Team selection is tied for third in the country with 10 shutouts.
- Leavitt has made 50 saves on the campaign and ranks top 20 nationally in both goals against average and save percentage.
- Eight of Elon's 10 clean sheets this season have come at home.
- Elon has allowed just six of its first 17 opponents to reach double-digit shot attempts in a game.
- On Oct. 13, Kitch earned CAA Defensive Player of the Week, becoming the second Elon player to earn the honor this season along with Leavitt. Kitch scored the game-winning goal for Elon against UNCW on Oct. 11 after logging the full 90 minutes in a 1-1 draw at No. 7 Duke on Oct. 7.
- Leavitt has earned CAA Defensive Player of the Week twice this season on Sept. 1 and 8.
Kozak Contributing
- Kozak is pacing the Phoenix with 16 points this season (4g, 8a). He has scored or assisted on nine of Elon's last 13 goals.
- With eight assists this season, Kozak is already tied for 10th for the most helpers in a single campaign by an Elon player. Only Nick Aparicio (10) in 2006 had more assists in a season for the Phoenix in the program's Division I era.
- Kozak's record-setting four-assist outing against Campbell last weekend vaulted him into a tie for second in the CAA in helpers.
- Kozak led the Phoenix with four assists during the regular season, all of which he has started.
- The All-CAA Third Team Selection has the most points for the Phoenix in CAA play (13). His six points against Campbell were the most by an Elon player against a CAA opponent since Scott Vatne had seven a season ago versus Northeastern.
- The junior is one of four Elon players, along with Mucchetti, Renz and Colin Veltri, with multiple assists on the season and has contributed on seven of Elon's 13 goals as a team.
Rookie Of The Year Renz
- Renz has emerged as one of Elon's top offensive producers in his debut campaign with the Phoenix.
- The redshirt sophomore is one of two Elon players with double-digit points (11) this season. Renz scored his fourth goal of the campaign last weekend against Campbell to remain in a tie with Kozak for the team lead.
- All four of Renz's goals this season have been game-winning tallies, including three against CAA opponents Campbell, UNCW and College of Charleston. He ranks No. 2 in the conference in game-winning goals, trailing only Hofstra's Goddard (6).
- The CAA Rookie of the Year took home back-to-back CAA Rookie of the Week honors on Sept. 1 and Sept. 8, becoming the first Elon player to win the weekly honor twice in a season since Vatne in 2021.
- Renz has started 13 matches for the Phoenix and has played 65-plus minutes on 10 occasions.
Scouting Stony Brook
- Stony Brook has won a pair of CAA Tournament games to reach the championship match.
- As the No, 2 seed in the CAA North Division, the Seawolves opened their tournament run with a 2-0 victory against Monmouth on Nov. 6.
- The Seawolves then upset top-seeded Hofstra last weekend, rallying late in the second half for a 2-1 victory. After the Pride scored first in the opening half, Scemar Webb tied the match for Stony Brook with a goal in the 79th minute before Ryan Farr scored less than a minute later to put the Seawolves ahead.
- This is Stony Brook's first appearance in the CAA championship match. The quarterfinal and semifinal victories were Stony Brook's first two in the CAA Tournament.
- Stony Brook is 9-4-5 overall after going 4-3-1 in conference play during the regular season. The Seawolves won their final three regular season CAA matches to lock up a tournament spot and enter Sunday on a five-match conference winning streak.
- The Seawolves have scored 32 goals this season, tied with Hofstra for the second most in the conference.
- Finlay Oliver leads the Seawolves and ranks No. 3 in the CAA with 20 points on the season. His eight goals are the most on Stony Brook and are also tied for the third most in the conference.
- Three more Stony Brook players have double-digit points on the campaign – Farr (13), Alex Fleury (13) and Caleb Danquah (11),
- Fleury is pacing the Seawolves with seven assists this season. He has the fourth most assists among CAA players.
- CAA Co-Defender of the Year Jamie Orson is tied with Nicholas Wilson for a team-high 1,575 minutes played this season.
- Heidar Hermannsson has started 13 matches in goal for the Seawolves this season, including both of Stony Brook's tournament victories. The freshman has a 1.09 goals against average.
- Stony Brook is led by head coach Ryan Anatol, who is in his 15th season with the program. He is Stony Brook's all-time winningest coach.
