ELON – Powered by a six-point performance from
Martin Kozak and a four-goal second half, Elon outlasted Campbell 6-4 in a Coastal Athletic Association Tournament semifinal Sunday night at Rudd Field. The Phoenix ia heading to the CAA Championship match against Stony Brook, which Elon will host next Sunday for the second time in four years.
Elon (8-3-6) struck first in the 18th minute when
Jordin Wilson finished a service from
Weston Jonke. The Phoenix doubled the lead late in the first half as junior
Jahmir Flowers converted after a combination play from
Einar Ness and Kozak. Campbell trimmed the margin to 2–1 on an own goal just before the break.
The match exploded after halftime, with seven combined goals scored in a 30-minute stretch. Campbell equalized in the 58th minute, but Kozak restored Elon's lead less than two minutes later from the penalty spot. The Camels answered with a penalty of their own in the 64th to make it 3-3.
Elon responded with a decisive three-goal run, starting in the 65th minute when center back Magnus Micha Jacobsen buried his first career goal off of a Kozak led set piece.
Dominik Renz added to the surge in the 73rd minute, slotting home another service from Kozak, and
Charlie Kitch capped the stretch in the 80th by heading home a Kozak corner kick. Kozak's fourth assist of the night broke the all-time Elon record for assists in a single match.
Campbell added a late goal in the 88th before Elon sealed the victory.
