ELON – As the reigning CAA outdoor champions, the Elon University track & field team is ready to begin its indoor season, competing in the Liberty Kickoff on Thursday and Friday. Elon will also compete in two other meets, the Sharon Colyear-Danville Opener on Saturday and the JDL Early Bird Invitational on Sunday.
Each Monday, Rising Phoenix will preview the week ahead in Elon athletics. Here is a look at each Elon team competing this week.
Men's Basketball
An 88-53 victory at Appalachian State last week marked the Elon men's basketball team's largest road margin of victory in Division I history. Chandler Cuthrell posted a team-high 23 points and 11 rebounds, while Randall Pettus II added 19 points and seven rebounds. Cuthrell followed up his strong performance with another double-double against Mercer, scoring 24 points and 13 rebounds with two steals. The Phoenix will return to the Schar Center for a game against Furman on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The Phoenix will then travel to Spartanburg, South Carolina, to compete against Wofford on Saturday at 4 p.m.
Track & Field
The last time the Elon University track & field team competed, the Phoenix was crowned CAA outdoor champions in May. To start the 2025-26 season, Elon will head to Lynchburg, Virginia, to compete in the Liberty Kickoff, with all day competition from Thursday to Friday. Members of the team will also compete at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Opener in Boston on Saturday and at the JDL Early Bird Invitational in Winston-Salem on Sunday.
Women's Basketball
The Elon University women's basketball team is fresh off a 65-57 victory over North Dakota at Paradise Jam in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Tamia Watkins had a team-high 11 points and seven rebounds off the bench, adding one block. Against Tulane, Tyana Walker scored a season-high 22 points with five rebounds, which earned her a spot on the All-Tournament team. Elon will travel to Greenville to face East Carolina on Sunday at 2 p.m.
