Men's Tennis Looks To Extend Win Streak Tuesday By Hosting Bucknell

ELON, N.C. – The Elon University men's tennis team will play a match at Jimmy Powell Tennis Center for the first time this spring, hosting Bucknell Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. Elon, 3-5 on the season, enters on a two-match win streak following a 4-3 win at Campbell Sunday, while Bucknell is 8-4 on the year.

ABOUT ELON
  • Elon is 3-5 on the season but has won two straight and three of its last five.
  • Most recently, the Phoenix defeated Campbell 4-3 Sunday.
  • Rafael Ymer is 5-3 in singles play, the most wins on the team. He has won four out of his last five matches and is 5-2 at No. 2 singles.
  • Oskar Antinheimo and Veljko Krstic were named CAA Doubles Team of the Week on March 4 and are now 3-2 in doubles play this year. The duo has won three consecutive matches.
  • Elon has won the doubles point in each of the last two matches, getting things started on the right foot. 
  • Head Coach Maciek Sykut is in his first year as head coach of the Phoenix. He took over the program after spending five years on the coaching staff at Duke.

SCOUTING BUCKNELL
  • Bucknell is currently 8-4 on the season following a 5-1 win at UNC Greensboro Monday afternoon. 
  • Adam Stavrakas is 12-0 this spring, splitting time between No. 1 and No. 2 singles. He won 6-4, 6-4 at No. 1 singles against UNCG Monday.
  • Amar Tahirovic has shared time with Stavrakas between No. 1 and No. 2 singles and has a record of 9-1 in singles play. 
  • Bucknell is a combined 17-1 at the No. 1 and No. 2 singles spots this spring.
  • Bucknell has faced one other CAA team this spring, losing to Drexel 5-2.
  • Head Coach Jason Cohen has been with the program since August 2022. He has been a head coach for 15 years, spending time at the California Institute of Technology before moving to Bucknell. 

THE CAA TOURNAMENT
  • Elon will host the CAA Tournament for both men's and women's tennis this spring. The top six men's teams in the conference will converge on Elon for the April 25-27 tournament.
