Phoenix Dominate in 13-1 Win Over Pirates

HAMPTON, Va. – The Elon University softball team earned its fourth straight win to being CAA play with a 13-1 victory at Hampton on Friday, March 14 at the Pirates Softball Stadium.

Elon improved to 11-11 overall on the season with a 4-0 ledger in the CAA. The last time the Phoenix began CAA at 4-0 came in 2023. Hampton fell to 7-14 and 0-4 in league play.

At the Plate
• Elon had 14 hits at the plate, tying for its season-high mark on the season. Five players had a pair of hits for the Phoenix in Allee Seering (2-of-4), Gabi Schaal (2-of-4), Chloe Hatzopoulos (2-of-4), Lani Wyrick (2-of-4) and Reagan Hartley (2-of-2).
• Seering drove in four RBI for Elon and also legged out a pair of doubles. Hatzopoulos drove in two runs while Schaal added a double to her stat line.
Greta Hessenthaler went 1-of-1 at the dish, expanding her reached base streak to 21 games.

In the Circle
• Mckenna McCard got the win in the circle, going to 4-2 on the year. The senior pitched 4.2 frames and allowed one unearned run in the contest while striking out four batters.

The Rundown
• Elon's offense got going early. Seering reached on a fielder's and then moved to second off a Kaitlyn Wells single through the right side. Seering later scored on a ground out with Wells advancing to third on the play. An error by Hampton allowed Wells to plate the second run of the inning for Elon, who took a 2-0 lead.
• The Phoenix added three more runs to its advantage in the top of the second. Hartley drew a one-out walk and was joined on the bases by Hessenthaler after a single. The two base runners would score on a double through the right side by Seering to double Elon's lead. Seering reached third on the throw on the play and would herself score off a Wells ground out to give the Phoenix a 5-0 cushion.
• Hartley would drive in another run in the top of the third, scoring Peyton Fitzpatrick who pinch-ran earlier in the inning. A sac fly by Hessenthaler pushed Elon's advantage to 7-0 after the top half of the third.
• After a scoreless fourth, Elon pushed six runs across the dish in the top of the fifth. Seering drove in two more runs on a double to right center while Hessenthaler also scored on the play on the throw. A passed ball enabled Seering to go home before two more runs were added off Hatzopoulos' two-out single, putting Elon ahead 13-0.
• The Pirates would scratch across their lone run of the game in the bottom of the fifth, but that would be the only blemish that Elon allowed in its 13-1 victory.
