DURHAM, N.C. – The Elon University softball team fell on the road at No. 14 Duke, 10-0, on Tuesday evening, March 4 at Duke Softball Stadium.
The loss dropped the Phoenix's ledger to 7-11 while Duke improved to 15-6.
At the Plate
• Elon was held to one hit in the game, which came off the bat of
Allee Seering.
Teagan Baulsir drew a walk for the Phoenix as Elon only had three baserunners reach all game.
In the Circle
•
Anna Dew was credited with the loss in the circle, falling to 0-3 on the season. She was one of four Elon pitchers that appeared in the contest for the Phoenix.
Taylor Cherry struck out two batters in her 1.1 frames in relief.
The Rundown
• Elon had two runners reach base in the top of the first.
Payton Swart reached on an error before an Seering single pushed her to second. The Blue Devils escaped the jam by retiring the next three batters to end the inning.
• Duke scored five runs in the bottom of the first. Four of those came off a one-out grand slam as the Phoenix faced a 5-0 deficit after the opening frame.
• The Blue Devils increased their lead in the home half of the second. Duke plated four runs in the frame, increasing its lead to 9-0 after two complete.
• Another run would get tallied on in the bottom of the third for the Blue Devils. The Phoenix would not get another base runner on as the game closed with the 10-0 win for Duke.
On Deck
Elon begins CAA play this weekend, March 7-9, with a three-game set versus Hofstra at Hunt Softball Park. Each game of the series will stream on FloCollege (FloSoftball).
