The Rundown
• Elon got the offense going early in the top of the first. The Phoenix loaded the bases before three straight RBI singles from Schaal, Payton Swart and Chloe Hatzopoulos gave the maroon and gold a 3-0 lead.
• Schaal helped add another run for the Phoenix in the top of the second. Hessenthaler led off with a single and advanced to second on a Seering single and a fly out to right field. Schaal flew out in right on her at bat, but the sac fly enabled Hessenthaler to score to put the maroon and gold ahead 4-0.
• After a scoreless third, Elon added a five-spot in the top of the fourth. The Phoenix loaded the bases on a couple of Drexel errors and a single from Seering before Kaitlyn Wells cleared them on her double to left. Schaal followed with a single down the right field line, moving Wells to home before Schaal herself scored on a sac fly to right by Hatzopoulos to give the Phoenix a 9-0 advantage.
• Drexel responded with a two-run home run in its half of the fourth, joining the Phoenix on the scoreboard while trimming its deficit to seven, 9-2.
• Both teams traded runs in the fifth inning, with the Phoenix carrying a 10-3 advantage going to the sixth. Schaal however started the top of the sixth with a solo home run to left, kicking off a three-run frame for the visitors.
