Elon Picks Up 12th Victory With 6-1 Win Over North Carolina A&T

Elon, N.C. - The Elon University women's tennis team faced CAA opponent, North Carolina A&T, at Jimmy Powell Tennis Center Wednesday afternoon. The Phoenix claimed the victory 6-1, moving to 12-6 on the season. After losing to the Phoenix, the Aggies now stand at 8-7. Due to NC A&T not having a full doubles or singles lineup, the Phoenix earned wins at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles by default.

Elon made the dominance clear from the start with Miray Konar and Helen Sarikulaya securing the doubles point, finishing first and winning 6-2 against Hana El Sherif and Randy Rakotoarilala. Duo Heidi Bulger and Madison Cordisco secured the doubles sweep, winning 7-6 (7-2). 

Heading into singles, the Phoenix had two points on the board due to the doubles point and the default point at No. 6 singles. Heidi Bulger defeated Hana El Sherif 6-0, 6-1 for the third point of the match and Mariana Reding clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Juana Gomez Weiss at No. 2 singles. Madison Cordisco followed, also winning in straight sets. Simone Bergeron fell to Randy Rakotoarilala after an intense first and second set, winning 6-3 in the first, losing 6-4 in the second. To break the tie, Rakotoarilala won the third set with a 10-4 tiebreak. To close out the match, captain Helen Sarikulaya kept it entertaining, defeating Dorsa Cheraghi in a tie break. Sarikulaya lost the first set 7-5, before winning the second 6-4. Sarikulaya secured her victory, winning the third set tiebreak 10-4.

Up next: The Phoenix have two days off before returning to JPTC to face yet another CAA opponent, College of Charleston, at 10 a.m. The College of Charleston is 11-7 on the season.
