AARHUS, Denmark – Former Elon University men's basketball standout
Sam Sherry has signed a professional contract with the Bakken Bears of the Basketligaen, the top basketball league in Denmark, the club announced this week.

"I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunity to play at the next level with Bakken," said Sherry. "I couldn't have done it without the support of my family, coaches, teammates and my love for the game. I'm ready to work!"

A native of Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, Sherry was a three-year starter in his four seasons with the Phoenix from 2021 to 2025. He appeared in 119 games with 88 starts. The 6-foot-11 forward averaged 14.8 points and 7.4 rebounds per game during his senior campaign and tied for the Colonial Athletic Association lead in double-doubles with eight. Sherry also became the 26th player in program history to score more than 1,000 career points and the 10th player in Elon's Division I history to reach both 1,000 career points and 500 career rebounds.

The Bears have won the Basketligaen 21 times, the most in league history, and have also claimed 11 Danish Cups. In addition to domestic competition, the club regularly participates in European tournaments. The Bears are three-time semifinalists in the FIBA Europe Cup and also compete in the Basketball Champions League, FIBA's premier tournament in Europe.
