Elon Sets Program Record With Seventh Straight Shutout

Phoenix Scores Five Second-Half Goals In 6-0 Win Against South Carolina State

ELON – The Elon University women's soccer team (6-0-2) capped off an unbeaten non-conference slate with a 6-0 shutout Wednesday night over South Carolina State (1-7-0) at Rudd Field.

With the shutout victory, the Phoenix set a program record with its seventh consecutive clean sheet, surpassing the previous mark of six set in 1986, Elon's inaugural season of competition. Anna Hamner and Naomi Person shared the shutout in goal, with Hamner making Elon's lone save of the contest.

Five different Phoenix scored a goal, led by Gabby Hoschek's brace. In total, 11 different Elon players registered either a goal or an assist. Hoschek (4) and Isa Murdock (3) paced the Phoenix in points.

The win secures Elon's second consecutive unbeaten non-conference record, as the Phoenix has won or tied 14 straight non-conference contests dating back to 2023.

How It Happened
  • The Phoenix appeared to have its first goal of the game in the 14th minute, but the Abby Brinker tally was waved off.
  • Elon finally broke through in the 31st minute. After Maya Abousaab's shot was blocked by a South Carolina State defender, Hoschek flew into the box and sent her first touch into the bottom left corner for the first goal of the contest.
  • Later in the 31st minute, South Carolina State's Simone Miranda was issued a red card for a tackle near the top of the Bulldogs' box. South Carolina State had to play the remainder of the contest with 10 players.
  • After taking a 1-0 lead into the halftime break, Elon produced its second goal of the night in the 59th minute. Ashlee Brehio secured the ball in Bulldog territory following an errant South Carolina State pass and took the ball across midfield before playing a ball up the field to a sprinting Jess Beck, who had no defenders to beat. After taking the ball into the box, Beck beat the goalkeeper with a shot in the bottom right corner of the net.
  • In the 65th minute, the Phoenix earned a free kick from just outside the top of the box after a Brehio shot was knocked down by a handball. Hoschek took the free kick, starting the ball to the right of South Carolina State's wall and beating the keeper in the bottom right corner for her second goal of the match.
  • The Phoenix added a fourth goal in the 74th minute, with Murdock connecting following a pair of stretch passes from Jessica Hill from the backline and Jordan Green from the midfield.
  • Just over a minute after Murdock's tally, Grace Gelhaus got in on the fun, making it 5-0 for the Phoenix on assists from Murdock and Green.
  • Elon tacked on a goal in the closing seconds to secure a 6-0 result. Hellner scored the final goal for the Phoenix on assists from Talia Feigin and Brinker.

Notes & Numbers
