SPARTANBURG – The Elon University volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision (14-25, 17-25, 17-25) at Wofford on Thursday in its second match of the Clemson/Wofford Tournament.

Clara Simmons led the Phoenix (1-7) with 11 kills and a .300 hitting percentage.
Cameron Lanier added eight kills, while
Simrin Carlsen contributed seven.
Shannon O'Laughlin paced Elon defensively with 12 digs, and setters
Kayla Palmer and
April Rice each tallied 13 assists.

Wofford (2-4) won its second straight match behind double-digit kills from Bradley Brown (12) and Chloe Smith (10). Smith also posted a double-double with 11 digs.

THE RUNDOWN
- Elon tied the opening set at 4-4 on a Lanier kill and a Wofford attack error before the Terriers used a 6-1 run to go ahead 10-5. The Phoenix trimmed the deficit to 12-10 after another Lanier kill, but Wofford closed the frame on a 9-1 spurt to win 25-14.

- In the second set, Elon rallied to tie the score at 6-6 on a Catherine Rucker kill. The Phoenix trailed 12-10 following a Terrier attack error, but Wofford answered with four straight points to extend its lead. The Terriers held off any late push from Elon to secure a 25-17 victory and a 2-0 lead in the match.

- Elon stayed close early in the third set, pulling within 10-9 on a Palmer service ace. Wofford responded with a 5-1 run and maintained control the rest of the way to take the set 25-17 and complete the sweep.

- The Phoenix closes out the tournament tomorrow at USC Upstate with first serve scheduled for 5 p.m. That match will stream on ESPN+.
