ELON – The Elon University women's soccer team (6-2-3, 0-2-1 CAA) fell on the road Saturday to William & Mary (3-4-4, 1-0-2 CAA), losing 2-1 to the Tribe at Martin Family Stadium.
Isa Murdock netted the game's first goal in the first half, but the Tribe responded with two goals after the intermission, including the game winner in the 79th minute.
Katie Bisgrove made a season-high nine saves for the Phoenix in goal, including five in the second half.
How It Happened
- Ashlee Brehio had Elon's first scoring chance of the game. In the seventh minute, Elon sent a cross into the box that Brehio nudged away from William & Mary goalkeeper Gwen Doughty. Brehio took a shot from near the right post, but it was blocked by a Tribe defender.
- The Tribe began applying pressure over the next 15 minutes, attempting four of the game's next five shots. Bisgrove stopped three of the four attempts to keep William & Mary off the board.
- Elon scored the first goal of the contest in the 28th minute off a counter attack. Freshman Miranda Dumornay intercepted a Tribe pass and fed Brehio in the midfield. Brehio then delivered a pass to Murdock, who was making a run down the right wing. Murdock gathered the ball and took a high shot that beat Doughty and found the top right corner of the net.
- Bisgrove made her fourth save of the period in the 33rd minute, denying the Tribe's Ellie Leffler. The Phoenix took a 1-0 advantage into the break.
- Leffler leveled the score in the 51st minute off a William & Mary corner kick. After the Tribe sent the ball into the box, Ivey Crain fired the ball off the left goalpost, but it ricocheted back out onto the foot of Leffler, who rolled the ball into the bottom right corner for the tying goal.
- Bisgrove made a flurry of crucial saves in the second half, including a diving stop in the 77th minute that she kept out with her fingertips.
- The Tribe took its first lead of the day in the 79th minute with a Sheridan Brummett tally.
- Brehio took Elon's final shot of the match in the 88th minute, but it was stopped by Doughty.
