ELON – The Elon University men's soccer team (5-1-4) posted a clean sheet against one of the nation's top scoring offenses Tuesday night at Rudd Field, battling No. 10 UNCG (6-1-2) to a scoreless draw.
The Phoenix limited the country's No. 4 ranked scoring offense to just three shots on target in a shutout effort.
Jackson Leavitt manned the net for the Phoenix, making three saves.
With the draw, Elon picked up its first result against a top 10 opponent since 2015.
How It Happened
- It took until the 14th minute for the game's first shot attempt, which came off the foot of UNCG's Steven Hernandez. Jordin Wilson took Elon's first shot in the 25th minute.
- Leavitt was called into action for the first time in the 33rd minute, leaping to deny a rising shot from UNCG's Arnaud Tattevin.
- The Spartans had two looks at corner kicks in the final 15 minutes of the first half but could not convert on either, as the score was tied 0-0 entering the locker room.
- UNCG generated steady offensive pressure in the opening stages of the second half. The Spartans fired three shots off target in the first 10 minutes before Leavitt made his second save of the night on a piercing Hernandez attempt that required Elon's keeper to dive toward the near post to stop.
- Hernandez forced another save by Leavitt in the 64th minute.
- Sumner Nenninger delivered Elon's best scoring chance of the night with time running out. In the 89th minute, Nenninger dribbled the ball through a UNCG defender as he reached the top of the box before taking a low shot toward the left post. UNCG goalkeeper Seth Wilson lunged to make a save and keep the match scoreless.
- Nenninger's effort was the final of the contest, which ended in a scoreless tie.
