ELON – The rain made the night chaotic, but Elon stayed composed. Behind senior center back
Carlos Levy and senior captain
Majaliwa Msabaha, the Phoenix earned its sixth clean sheet in nine matches with a 0–0 draw against Campbell on Friday at Rudd Field.
Campbell pressed high early, forcing two saves from graduate student goalkeeper Jackson Leavitt inside the first five minutes. Elon's best chance came after halftime when sophomore forward
Jordin Wilson carried a counter nearly 20 yards and fired left-footed, but the shot was blocked. On the slick pitch, passes skidded and tackles came harder.
For Levy, the defensive shift from last year is clear.
"Last year we only had three clean sheets all year," Levy said. "This year we're already at six. We haven't conceded at home. We're really happy with our defensive structure, and we know the goals will come."
The backline limited Campbell to just four shots, cutting off the Camels' long balls in behind.
"Every center -back on this team, we back ourselves to win every header, every challenge," Levy said. "If a team wants to send the ball at us, let them do it all game. We'll never back down."
Msabaha said the trust in the partnership is what keeps the line organized.
"Carlos sees both sides and keeps us in shape," Msabaha said. "Whenever he tells me to push or shift, I listen. He's a good partner to have back there."
In the second half, Levy gestured for calm after a stretch of sloppy play.
"Intensity is important, passion is important, but composure is crucial," Levy said. "It's always important to regroup as a team, trust that we are solid defensively, and know that we have the talent going forward."
"We fight like a family," Msabaha added. "If you make a mistake, another guy is going to be behind you."
Levy echoed Msabaha with the line that defined the night:
"You can fix a broken nose, but if you concede a goal, you can't fix your pride," Levy said.
Elon stays on top of the CAA South and now turns to a matchup at home against No. 17 UNCG at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.
"Every game is its own game," Levy said. "Forget about the last games; learn about them, clear our heads and focus. We'll be ready."
