DURHAM – The Elon men's tennis team pushed No. 17 Duke but ultimately dropped a 4-0 decision to the Blue Devils on Friday at the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center in Durham.

Duke secured the doubles point by winning the first two matches before earning three straight-set victories in singles to clinch the overall result.

The Rundown

• Duke claimed the doubles point with victories at the Nos. 1 and 3 positions.
• At the No. 1 spot, Cooper Williams and Pedro Rodenas defeated Veljko Krstic and Nikola Parichkov, 6-4.
• On Court 3, Teddy Truwit and Saahith Jayaraman edged Oskar Antinheimo and Charles Pilet in a tiebreak, 7-6 (7). Antinheimo and Pilet saved two match points at 5-6 and 6-7 in the breaker before Duke closed it out. This was Antinheimo's doubles debut this spring. 
• The No. 2 doubles match went unfinished, with Jack Curtis and Rafael Ymer tied 5-5 against Gerard Planelles Ripoll and Dylan Long.
• Duke clinched the match with straight-set wins at Nos. 1-3 singles. 
• At No. 4 singles, Pilet won the opening set 7-6 (3) over Gerard Planelles Ripoll. The sophomore rallied from down 5-6 in the first set before dominating the tiebreak. The match was halted in the second set. Pilet moved up from the No. 5 singles position against Saint Joseph's to No. 4 for this match.
• On Court 5, Curtis won the first set 6-4 against Long after trailing 0-3. The contest was a game into the final set when it was stopped.
• At the No. 6 spot, Antinheimo claimed a dramatic 7-6 (5) first-set win over Jayaraman after winning five straight points in the tiebreak. He led 2-1 in the second set when the contest was abandoned.

 
Up Next
Elon will take on No. 13 Texas A&M on Wednesday in its second neutral site match of the season in Winston-Salem. The contest is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start.
