ELON – Reigning CAA Player of the Week Vince Fattore led the offensive charge for the Elon baseball team once again in a 6-4 win over Presbyterian on Tuesday night.
 
The victory marked Elon's fourth on the season, its first 4-0 start since 2015. Fattore said this feat reflects the team's early momentum.
 
"It sounds great," Fattore said. "We're off to a good start, got to keep it rolling, but I like how we're looking so far."
 
The Phoenix trailed early, falling behind 1-0 in the top of the first and managing just two hits off starting pitcher Sammy Vander Hill. Elon finally broke through against the Blue Hose bullpen in the bottom of the fifth.
 
Facing reliever Robbie Boykin, Fattore simplified his approach. He took a first-pitch slider outside before attacking a second left in the heart of the zone.
 
"Met with [Coach Giles], [Boykin] was heavy slider so I sat slider and got a pitch that I could drive," Fattore said.
 
He pulled the ball over the left field wall at 106.2 miles per hour off the bat, sending it 375 feet for a three-run home run to put the Phoenix ahead 3-1.
 
The momentum continued later that inning when senior left fielder Brian DuRoff sat on a 1-1 slider and hammered it over the left field wall in a similar spot to Fattore's for his first home run of the season.
 
"That was a great swing, that's my roommate – roommate love," Fattore said. "That ball was nuked, glad to see him get one."
 
Elon tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the sixth, which proved to be the necessary insurance runs in a 6-4 final.
 
Fattore has now homered in back-to-back games and is 5-for-9 (.566) to begin the season.
 
"I feel good sticking to a plan and executing, just got to keep it going throughout the rest of the season," Fattore said.
 
With the homestand complete, Elon will face its first road test, traveling to Charleston Southern for a three-game series from Friday through Sunday.
