ELON – The Elon softball team suffered a 20-1 setback vs. Indiana in its first game at the Elon-UNCG Tournament on Friday at Hunt Softball Park.

The loss dropped the Phoenix to 3-12 on the season while the Hoosiers improved to 13-4.

- Lia Miller took the loss for the Phoenix, falling to 1-1 on the year. The junior tossed five innings, allowing six hits and seven runs (six earned) while striking out one.
The Rundown
The Phoenix jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the first with a two-out rally.
Payton Swart reached on a fielder's choice and advanced to third on a single from Baulsir. Hatzopoulos then doubled to right-center, scoring Swart to give Elon a 1-0 advantage.

Indiana responded in the top of the third as Aly Van Brandt connected on a one-out solo home run to right-center to even the score at 1-1.

The Hoosiers moved in front in the fourth on an RBI single before adding three more runs in the fifth via a three-run home run to extend the lead to 5-1.

Indiana continued to add on over the remainder of the game as the weather conditions worsened, ultimately pulling away for the 20-1 final.

The Phoenix continues play at the Elon-UNCG Tournament on Saturday, facing Charleston Southern at 12:30 p.m. before taking on UNCG at 5:30 p.m. at the UNCG Softball Stadium in Greensboro.
