Tar Heels Defeat Phoenix

Five Players Make Their Collegiate Debuts For Elon

CHAPEL HILL – The Elon softball team dropped a 15-3 decision to North Carolina on Friday in its second game of the UNC Tournament at Anderson Softball Stadium.
 
The Phoenix falls to 0-2 on the season, while the Tar Heels improved to 2-0.
 
At the Plate
  • Elon recorded six hits in the contest, with six different players tallying one apiece. Greta Hessenthaler collected a hit for the second straight game, while Christina Piotrowski drove in a pair of runs with a two-run double.
 
In the Circle
  • Anna Dew took the loss for the Phoenix, moving to 0-1 on the year. Four different pitchers saw time in the circle for Elon.
 
The Rundown
  • North Carolina jumped out to an early lead, scoring seven runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Tar Heels added six more runs in the second to extend their advantage to 13-0.
  • UNC tacked on runs in both the third and fourth innings to push the margin to 15-0 after four complete.
  • Elon broke through in the top of the fifth. Jenna Klein opened the frame with a single and moved to second following a one-out walk to Kayla Wilson. A walk to Julia Tamulski loaded the bases before Piotrowski delivered a two-out, two-run double to left field to put the Phoenix on the board.
  • The Phoenix added one more run later in the inning. Allie Dawson beat out an infield single, scoring Tamulski. The short rally however came to an end as North Carolina recorded the final out on a flyout.

  • Elon continues its play at the tournament with a contest versus James Madison tomorrow at 11:30 a.m.
