RALEIGH – The Elon softball team fell behind early at NC State, suffering a 14-2 setback to the Wolfpack on Tuesday evening at Dail Softball Stadium.

The loss drops the Phoenix's record to 4-15 while NC State improves to 14-7 with its 11th straight win.

The Wolfpack posted a six-run bottom of the first to take the early lead. Three of those runs came off a three-run homer by Morgen Talley as the Phoenix faced a 6-0 deficit.

Elon scratched a run of its own in the top of the second. Hatzopoulos led off the frame with a solo home run to left field, putting the Phoenix on the scoreboard down 6-1. Elon put a couple more runners on base with one-out singles from Swart and Fitzpatrick, but they were stranded after a popup and a groundout.

NC State, however, doubled its run total with a five-run bottom of the second, increasing its lead to 12-1. Another run was tacked on by the Wolfpack in the bottom of the third as the lead grew to 13-1.

Camacho pushed across one more in the top of the fourth, adding the Phoenix's second run of the contest. The Wolfpack responded with a run in the bottom half of the frame, setting the 14-2 final score.

The Phoenix begins CAA play this weekend, hosting North Carolina A&T Friday through Sunday in a three-game set.
