CAMDEN, S.C. – The Elon men's tennis team (6-12) closed its regular season Monday with a 5-2 victory over St. John's (16-6) in a neutral-site contest at the Tennis Center of Camden.
The Phoenix rallied after dropping the doubles point, winning five of six points in singles.
Charles Pilet delivered the winning point with a three-set victory at the No. 6 singles spot.
The Rundown
- St. John's won a tightly contested doubles point that came down to the final match on Court 3.
- The Red Storm won on Court 1, but Jack Curtis and Rafael Ymer responded with a 6-4 victory at the No. 2 spot over Mats Pottbecker and Sergej Zivkovic. It was their first appearance together since March 8 against South Carolina State. The duo has now won five matches together this spring, tied for most on the Phoenix.
- The match on Court 3 went to a tiebreak, with Semen Agynskyy and Adam Groves saving match points to beat Oskar Antinheimo and Nick Fisk in a tiebreak. Antinheimo and Fisk were a first-time pairing for Elon.
- The Phoenix took a 2-1 lead after singles victories from Veljko Krstic and Nikola Parichkov. Krstic defeated David Petrovic 6-1, 6-2 on Court 1 for his seventh victory of the spring. It was his fifth win in the last seven matches, with the two defeats coming in match tiebreaks.
- Parichkov took down Pottbecker 6-4, 6-2 on Court 5 for his third straight singles victory, his longest winning streak of the spring. He improved to 3-1 playing the No. 5 spot since debuting there on March 29 against Old Dominion.
- Antinheimo extended Elon's lead with a 6-2, 6-3 win against Groves at the No. 4 spot. It was the senior's sixth victory of the campaign and the second straight to come in two sets.
- Pilet came from a set down to deliver the winning point for the Phoenix, defeating Danilo Raicevic 5-7, 6-2, 6-1. It was the sophomore's fifth win of the season and his second in the last three matches. He has now won two matches in full third sets this spring.
- Ymer rounded out Elon's comeback win with a three-set victory of his own on Court 2. The sophomore defeated Armando Sotelo 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 for his team-best 14th victory of the season and seventh in a row. Ymer has won three straight matches in either a full third set or a match tiebreak and improved to 5-1 in final sets on the campaign.
- The win was Elon's first this season and first since March 30, 2025, after losing the doubles point.
- This was the second time in the last three matches Elon has won five singles points.
