ELON – Elon Athletics unveiled a new visual identity Monday, introducing an updated brand system designed to create greater consistency across the department and a stronger visual connection with Elon University.
 
The updated identity centers on the monogram "E" and the Elon wordmark as the primary marks for Elon Athletics. The system also introduces a redesigned Phoenix mascot, including full-body and head marks, that will serve as supporting elements of the athletics brand.
 
The monogram "E" provides Elon Athletics with a distinct and recognizable primary mark while creating a direct connection to the university. The longstanding Elon wordmark will continue as a foundational part of the athletics identity.
 
"Our goal was to create a clearer and more unified identity for Elon Athletics," Director of Athletics Jenn Strawley said. "Making the monogram 'E' and Elon wordmark our primary marks strengthens our connection to the university and gives our programs a consistent foundation. At the same time, the new Phoenix mascot honors our history while giving us a fresh way to represent the energy and character of Elon Athletics. This identity embraces our present and sets our path for the future."
 
The redesigned Phoenix draws inspiration from Elon's original mascot while giving the character a sharper, more athletic appearance. A focused expression and forward-leaning stance convey determination and movement, while the gold sweater and monogram "E" pay tribute to Elon's original Fightin' Christians mascot. Flame accents on the Phoenix's shoes provide another connection to Elon's history and the fire that has long been part of its identity.


 
The mascot system includes both full-body and head marks. Sport-specific versions of the Phoenix are also in development, providing individual programs with additional options while maintaining a consistent department-wide identity. Those marks will be introduced at later points throughout the 2026-27 academic year.
 
As part of the rollout, Elon will unveil a new physical Phoenix mascot on Tuesday, Aug. 25, during the university's College Coffee. The new mascot will bring the updated Phoenix identity to life and will serve as a visible part of Elon Athletics events and university traditions.
 
The new brand system will provide a consistent visual standard across Elon Athletics, including uniforms, facilities, digital content, social media, merchandise and other communications.
