Elon Rolls Past South Carolina State

Six Different Phoenix Tally Goals In Dominant Win

ORANGEBURG, S.C. – Behind six different goal scorers, the Elon women's soccer team (2-0) rolled to a dominant 6-0 win Thursday night against South Carolina State (0-2) at Oliver C. Dawson Stadium.

The Phoenix scored multiple goals in each half with 11 different players registering either a goal or an assist on the night. Freshman Hannah Carlson led all Elon scorers with three points in her first career start.

Elon reached a half dozen goals against South Carolina State for the second consecutive season after also defeating the Bulldogs 6-0 at Rudd Field in 2025. This was Elon's highest scoring road match since 2019.

How It Happened
  • Elon saw a pair of goals taken off the board in the opening 10 minutes due to offsides calls.
  • The Phoenix finally found its first official goal of the contest in the 14th minute. After Talia Feigin crossed a ball into the box, Carlson lifted the ball into the air before it found Isa Murdock's right foot. Murdock gathered the ball and rolled it past South Carolina State's goalkeeper to open the scoring.
  • Elon doubled its lead in the 32nd minute when Gabby Tirado fed a ball toward Grace Gelhaus at the far post, who tapped the ball in for a 2-0 lead.
  • Carlson returned to the scoresheet in the 39th minute, this time scoring her first career goal off a Feigin assist to stretch Elon's advantage to 3-0.
  • In the closing minutes of the opening half, Jordan Green scored a fourth Elon goal off an assist from CAA Rookie of the Week Nicole Kleyner. Green sent a shot from just outside the box over the Bulldogs' goalkeeper to make it a 4-0 Phoenix lead going into halftime.
  • Elon wasted little time tacking on a fifth goal after the break. After earning a corner kick in the 47th minute, Gia Milano sent a ball into the box that freshman Emerson Rogers corralled and nudged past the keeper for her first career goal.
  • The Phoenix scored for a sixth time in the 84th minute, with Jess Beck scoring off a pass from Charlise Grimes. Elon maintained its clean sheet in the closing minutes and secured a 6-0 triumph.

Notable Numbers
  • Elon has now produced a 6-0 winning result in three consecutive seasons.
  • The six different goal scorers were the most in a match for Elon since seven different Phoenix scored against Hampton in 2019.
  • Carlson led all scorers with three points after notching the first goal and assist of her career. She is the first Elon rookie to record three points in a match since Megan Dwyer had a three-point outing in 2024 against Hampton.
  • All three of Elon's freshmen have now scored in their college debuts this season. Kleyner scored her first career goal in the VCU win, with Carlson and Rogers both scoring goals against the Bulldogs.
  • Rogers played the entire second half, as did Kleyner. Elon's three freshmen combined for six points (2 goals, 2 assists) on the night.
  • Murdock's goal was her first of the season after she notched an assist last week in Elon's season opener. It was the 15th tally of her Phoenix tenure.
  • Gelhaus netted her first goal of the campaign after entering the game off the bench in the first half. The reigning CAA Defender of the Year logged 32 reserve minutes.
  • Tirado tallied her second assist of the season, providing the helper on Gelhaus' goal. Tirado now has an assist in each of her first two matches with the Phoenix.
  • Green's goal was her first 2023, snapping a 46-match goalless streak. The senior defender tallied five assists in between goals.
  • Milano's assist on Rogers' goal was the third of her Phoenix career. It was her first helper since last season's match against Queens on Aug. 28, 2025.
  • Grimes joined Carlson and Rogers by scoring her first career point. The sophomore assisted on Elon's final goal of the contest.
  • Beck's goal was the sixth of her Phoenix career. She played the first 45 minutes of the match.
  • Feigin has now recorded points in each of Elon's first two matches this season, adding an assist to her goal scored against VCU last week.
  • Anica Carpenter and Naomi Person split a clean sheet in goal, with Person playing the first half before Carpenter took over in the second half. Person was also part of a combined shutout with Anna Hamner against the Bulldogs last season. Person made Elon's lone save of the contest.
  • The appearance was Carpenter's first with the Phoenix. Alexis Gordon also made her Elon debut, playing 45 reserve minutes.
  • In total, 21 different Phoenix played in the match, including 19 field players.
  • Dwyer was the lone Phoenix to log all 90 minutes on the night.
  • Isabel DiPrima featured in Elon's starting lineup, the first start for the senior since last season's match against South Carolina State. DiPrima played 63 minutes, the third most by a Phoenix.
  • Elon has outscored its first two opponents this season, 10-1. The 10 goals are the most scored by an Elon team through the first two matches of a season in the program's Division I era and the most since the Phoenix netted 11 goals during a 2-0 start in 1988.
  • The 11 different point scorers were the most in a match for the Phoenix since 11 also found the scoresheet in last year's win over South Carolina State.
  • This was Elon's highest scoring road match since defeating Hampton 8-0 in 2019.
  • Elon has now outscored South Carolina State 19-0 in the four meetings between the teams.
