BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Behind a trio of second-half goals, the Elon men's soccer team (2-2-1, 1-1-0 CAA) picked up its first conference victory of the campaign Saturday night, defeating Campbell (0-6-0, 0-2-0 CAA) in a 3-0 shutout.

The teams played a scoreless first half before the Phoenix found three goals after the halftime break. Oscar Tonidandel converted Elon's first penalty kick of the season before goals by Dominik Renz and Jahmir Flowers just over three minutes apart stretched the Elon advantage.

Elon outshot Campbell 20-4 in the contest, putting nine shots on target. The Phoenix has now scored three goals in three of its five contests this season.

Drew Hartman anchored a clean sheet for the Phoenix, making two saves in goal for Elon's second shutout of the campaign. The four shot attempts by Campbell were the fewest the Phoenix has conceded in a match since also holding the Camels to four shots a season ago.

How It Happened

• Elon took the first two shots of the match before Campbell was forced to swap goalkeepers in the 14th minute.
• Renz had a quality scoring chance in the 23rd minute that was denied by Kaedon Johnson, the new Campbell keeper. He made another save in the 31st minute on a Caleb Frakes attempt.
• The Phoenix continued peppering the Camels with shots over the final 15 minutes of the period, with Renz attempting a pair and Tonidandel and Magnus Jacobsen both taking one.
• Elon earned a penalty kick opportunity in the 50th minute. Tonidandel took the attempt and scored to give the Phoenix a 1-0 lead.
• In the 69th minute, Renz doubled the Elon lead, scoring off a pass from Frakes to make it 2-0 Phoenix.
• Just over three minutes later, Flowers tacked on a third Elon goal to make it a 3-0 game.
• The Phoenix kept Campbell off the scoresheet from there to secure a shutout victory.

 
Notable Numbers

• Flowers set a new career high in goals with his third of the season through just six matches. The senior leads the Phoenix in both goals (3) and points (7) on the season.  
• Tonidandel's goal was the second of his Elon tenure, with both coming on penalty kicks.
• Renz netted his second goal of the season, joining Flowers as the only Phoenix with multiple goals on the season. Renz attempted a game-high five shots, putting two on goal.
• With an assist on Renz's goal, Frakes tallied his first career Elon point.
• Jacobsem, Weston Jonke, Daire McCarthy and Tønnes Daland all went the full 90 minutes in the field for the Phoenix.
• Kosei Sasaki made his first Phoenix start, logging 82 minutes and registering a shot attempt. Will Dunn made his season debut, playing eight reserve minutes.
• Nine different Phoenix attempted at least one shot in the match. This was Elon's second match with 20-plus shots this season after taking 26 in the season opener against VMI.
• Hartman made two saves in goal for his second shutout of the campaign. He has started all three of Elon's CAA matches this season.
• Elon has now won two of its last three road trips to Buies Creek.
