The Coach's Huddle - July 27

Dear Phoenix Football Fans,

We are part of the way through the third quarter that will conclude at the end of the month. Before camp gets started on August 7, I wanted to update you on how the summer has been.

Our players have been working hard this summer and the majority of our guys have either been taking classes or working in the community. Those players have diligently been using their summers to prepare for the upcoming season by working out with our strength and conditioning staff or by participating in drills they have organized independently.

I have been very impressed with our incoming freshmen. They have also been on campus taking classes this summer and have really bonded. That group has really become a tight-knit class.

Our coaches have also been busy this summer. The entire staff has been out working camps and recruiting to continue to improve our squad in future seasons. As I’ve mentioned before, we will recruit nationally, but we really want to focus on local talent and keep those players close to home. We don’t want to see a local kid head to an out-of-state FCS program.

The entire staff eagerly awaits the start of our first preseason camp here at Elon. I think that we will have some tremendous position battles to watch as the summer progresses. Our staff is preparing every day for the stretch that will begin next weekend. We will have our team ready to go in Nashville on September 3 at Vanderbilt.

Our entire preseason practice schedule will be available next week at elonphoenix.com.

Finally, for those who hadn’t seen the news, two former Elon players – Scott Riddle and Sean Jeffcoat – have signed free agent contracts with NFL teams. Scott signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Sean has joined the Arizona Cardinals. We wish both of those young men the best of luck.
