Rudd Field is home to the Elon University's men's and women's soccer teams, as well as the women's lacrosse team. During Summer 2014, the facility underwent renovations with new team dugouts and a new press box added to the facility.
Through the years, Rudd Field has hosted some memorable games. In 2013, a record crowd of 3,348 witnessed the Phoenix men's soccer team advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament with a thrilling win over Clemson in penalty kicks. The match ended a 1-1 tie after two overtimes, but Elon won the game on penalty kicks after Jason Waterman hit the game-winner to give his team a 4-1 victory.
The Elon men's program has won three conference championships and made three NCAA Tournament appearances during the school's Division I era, while the women's program won the 1999 Big South Conference Tournament title en route to the program's first NCAA appearance.
Both programs regularly host some of the nation's top soccer programs such as Wake Forest, Duke, Clemson, North Carolina State, Charlotte and Virginia Tech.
Starting competition in 2014, the women's lacrosse program played its first two seasons at Rhodes Stadium before moving to Rudd Field in 2016. Throughout its first three seasons at Rudd Field, the team has hosted national powers North Carolina, Duke and Notre Dame while also welcoming other schools like Stanford, Virginia Tech and 2018 national champion and fellow CAA member James Madison.
In 2017, Elon earned an at-large bid to the 2017 NCAA Tournament after reaching the CAA Finals with an overtime victory over second-seeded Towson in Maryland in the CAA Semifinals.
