Patrick Brown is in his first season with the Phoenix in 2026 as the program's secondary/SPURs coach. Brown joins the Phoenix after spending the past three seasons as a secondary coach and defensive pass-game coordinator at the Virginia Military Institute.
Brown served as the secondary coach and defensive pass game coordinator within his role at VMI. He helped multiple Keydets earn All-SoCon honors and a freshman all-American honor in his three seasons in Lexington, Virginia (2023-25).
With the Keydets, Brown helped develop the best passing defense in the Southern Conference in 2023. VMI finished the 2023 season as a top 30 defense in the FCS, and limited opponents to just 187 passing yards per game. The Keydets led the SoCon in both passing defense and passing touchdowns allowed that season.
Before his time at VMI, Brown spent two seasons as the defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach at Widener University. He helped the Widener defense become one of the top units in Division III and the second-best total defense in the M.A.C conference in 2021.
Prior to his coordinator experience at Widener, Brown spent time as defensive backs coach at multiple programs, including Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, Catawba College, University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff and Millersville University.
A native of Stone Mountain, Georgia, Brown has recruiting experience across the southeast. A 2012 graduate of nearby Greensboro College, he played tight end for four seasons with the Pride and graduated with a degree in exercise science.
