Patrick Madden joined coach Rich Skrosky’s staff in January 2013 as the defensive line coach. He was promoted to defensive coordinator and linebackers coach following the 2015 season.
Elon’s veteran defensive line accounted for 15.0 of the team’s 23 total sacks in the 2015 season.
Following Elon’s first season as a member of CAA Football, Madden’s defensive line saw one of its members, Dustin Ruff, collect all-league accolades.
Madden spent the previous two seasons with the Jumbos of Tufts. In his time with that program, Madden served as the linebackers coach and special teams coordinator (2013) and the defensive line coach and co-special teams coordinator (2012). In 2013, Tufts kickers rated fourth in the New England Small College Athletic Conference in kickoff yardage, averaging 58.7 yards per kick. That year Madden coached Mike Rando to first-team all-league honors as a return specialist. In his first season with the program the Jumbos ranked near the top of the league in kickoff return average, punt return average and punting average.
Prior to joining the staff at Tufts, Madden spent the 2011 campaign as the defensive coordinator at Lawrence Academy. He has also made coaching stops with the Omaha Nighthawks of the United Football League, the University of New Hampshire, Boston College, Columbia University and Wesleyan University. During Madden’s time at Boston College as a graduate assistant the Eagles won back-to-back ACC Atlantic Division crowns.
A 1999 graduate of Wesleyan, Madden played four seasons as a defensive back.
A Word on Madden:
"Pat is a great person and we were lucky to have him as part of our program at Tufts. Â He interacts well with the players and did a good job with our special teams. Â His transition from coaching the defensive line to linebackers was seamless. Â He has a lot of energy and is a great person to be around."
