Kevin Jermyn was named Elon University head cross country coach and assistant track and field coach on July 13, 2017. He was promoted to associate head coach of the track and field program in Aug. of 2022.
The Phoenix women's cross country team won its third straight CAA title in the fall of 2021 with Elon winning the meet with 27 points. Jermyn had five All-CAA performers at the meet including Maria Ahm becoming the first Phoenix female athlete to win multiple individual league championships. Ahm and Jermyn would repeat as the CAA's Women's Athlete and Coach of the Year, respectively, while Jette Beermann was also recognized as the league's Rookie of the Year. The Phoenix men was third overall at the lague championships as Jermyn helped Aidan Tierney to a third All-CAA performance.
Jermyn helped the Phoenix women's cross country team to its second consecutive CAA championship in the spring of 2021. Elon had five members receive All-CAA honors including Maria Ahm, who became the Phoenix's third straight runner to win the individual league title at the CAA Championships. Ahm would go on the become the CAA Women's Runner of the Year and the program's first-ever qualifier for the NCAA Cross Country Championships. Jermyn was selected as the CAA's Women's Coach of the Year for the second straight season and for the fourth time in his career. On the men's side, Elon had two All-CAA honorees for the second straight season with Aidan Tierney and Andrew Miller as the Phoenix men finished third overall at the CAAs.
During the outdoor season, Jermyn's distance group made a huge impact on the Phoenix earning its third CAA outdoor track and field championship. Elon had four overall individual CAA champions at the league meet inclduing three from the distance group with Ahm (5,000-meters), Melissa Anastasakis (1,500-meters) and Scolasticah Kemei (3,000-meter steeplechase and 10,000-meters). Five other athletes also earned All-CAA honors at the league championships. Ahm, Anastasakis and Kemei would all go on to qualify for the NCAA East Preliminaries with Kemei falling just shy of a NCAA berth to the national meet with a 13th-place finish in the 5,000-meters. Kemei would later be named the CAA Women's Track Athlete of the Year.
Jermyn helped the Elon women's cross country team earn its first-ever conference championship at the 2019 CAA Cross Country Championships. The Phoenix scored 41 points at the meet and had four All-CAA performers including its second straight individual champion in Scolasticah Kemei. Kemei would break the program's school-record in the 6K three times in 2019 and was named the CAA's Most Outstanding Performer of the Meet at the league championships. Jermyn also helped the men's team have a pair of All-CAA athletes in Andrew Miller and Aidan Tierney. Kemei was later honored as the league's Women Runner of the Year while freshman Maria Ahm also took the CAA's Rookie of the Year accolades. For his efforts, Jermyn was tabbed the CAA's 2019 Women's Coach of the Year, his third Coach of the Year award of his career.
In an abbreviated 2019-20 track season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Jermyn helped Melissa Anastasakis win the ECAC Indoor Championships in the one-mile run. The feat was the first-ever indoor ECAC championship for the Phoenix since beginning competition at the meet in 2015.
In his second season, Jermyn helped Coralea Geraniotis become the first Elon female to earn a league cross country championship at the Division I level with her win at the 2018 CAA Championships. The Phoenix women would just miss out on the league title by two points at the meet while having two members earn All-CAA accolades on the men's and women's side. Geraniotis was later named the CAA Women's Runner of the Year. On the men's side, Nick Ciolkowski was an All-CAA honoree for the fourth straight season and broke the school's all-time 8K time at the CAA Championships.
Jermyn was instrumental in helping Melissa Anastasakis win the CAA title in the 1,500-meters at the 2019 CAA Outdoor Championships while also seeing Chelsea Smith finish second in the race. The Phoenix also had Anastasakis and Geraniotis receive All-CAA honors in the 5,000-meters. Anastasakis won the ECAC 1,500-meter outdoor tile, which also qualified her for the NCAA East Prelims for the first time.
During his first season at the helm of the cross country program in 2017, Jermyn tutored Brigid Brennan, Coralea Geraniotis, Melissa Anastasakis and Nick Ciolkowski to All-CAA honors during the year. He also played a part in helping Brennan run the second-fastest time in school history in the 6K and Ciolkowski the second-fastest mark in the 10K on the men's side. Both programs finished third overall at the CAA Championships, which was hosted at Elon in 2017.
Later during the Phoenix's 2017-18 track and field season, Jermyn helped the maroon and gold to three CAA Outdoor championships including Coralea Geranotis in the 5,000 and 10,000-meters along with Melissa Anastasakis in the 1,500-meters. Overall, five distance members of the Phoenix earned All-CAA honors with Geraniotis qualifying for the NCAA East Preliminaries for the first time in her career.
Jermyn has 20 years of experience as a coach, including 14 at Duke where he served as the head women’s cross country coach and associate track and field coach from 2000 to 2014. He was awarded ACC Coach of the Year and NCAA Southeast Region Coach of the Year honors for the 2004 and 2005 cross country seasons and also was named the NCAA East Region Assistant Coach of the Year for distance in the 2004 outdoor season. He also helped the Blue Devils to a second and third place finish at the NCAA Championships in 2004 and 2005, respectively, while also capturing the ACC and Southeast Region titles.
Individually, Jermyn has coached 18 athletes to a total of 41 NCAA All-America performances. Jermyn coached Shannon Rowbury to Duke's first ever NCAA individual championship with her victory in the one-mile run at the 2007 NCAA Indoor Championships. He also guided Juliet Bottorff to the program's first NCAA individual title outdoors in the 10K during the 2011 season. During his tenure at Duke, Jermyn tutored 34 All-ACC performers and nine ACC Champions. In addition, Jermyn has coached 10 women who have represented the United States in international cross country competitions.
Prior to Duke, Jermyn competed professionally in cross country and track and field for the Reebok Enclave. Jermyn was a member of the victorious Reebok Enclave team at the 1998 USATF Cross Country Championship and raced to a personal best of 3:43.56 for 1,500-meters on the track.
As an undergraduate at Georgetown University, Jermyn led the Hoyas as team captain to numerous BIG EAST and IC4A team championships and NCAA Championship appearances. Individually, Jermyn was an All-America, All-East and All-BIG EAST selection in track and field.
Jermyn is a USATF Level III certified coach in endurance and is Level II certified in sprints, relays and hurdles. He has coached the United States national team as an assistant coach in the 2017 Pan Am Junior T&F Championships (Lima, Peru), 2018 NACAC T&F Championships (Toronto, Canada) and the 2019 Pan Am Junior T&F Championships (San Jose, Costa Rica). He graduated from Georgetown University cum laude in 1998 with a bachelor of science degree in accounting and finance and a minor in psychology. He later obtained a master's degree in liberal studies from Duke in 2006.
