Alaric Gwynn began as an assistant cross country and distance coach for the Elon University cross country and track and field programs in the fall of 2019.
Prior to Elon, Gwynn served as cross country and distance coach at Hillcrest High School in Simpsonville S.C. While at Hillcrest, he coached male athletes to times of 4:30.27 in the 1,600-meters, 9:41 in the 3,200-meters, 16:06 in the 5,000-meters and female athletes to 2:14 in the 800-meters, 5:24 in the 1,600-meters and 18:33 in the 5,000-meters under South Carolina high school coach of the year Adrique Heyward.
During his six years at Hillcrest, Gwynn’s highlights include being named region cross country of the year twice, coaching athletes to 10 school records, coaching the Hillcrest ladies 4x800-meter relay team to a state record time of 9:22.95, as well as qualifying girls and boys cross country teams for the South Carolina state championship for the first time in 16 and 18 years, respectfully.
Prior to Hillcrest, he privately coached adult and high school athletes in distance running and swimming in South Carolina. He is an avid advocate of Autism Awareness.
Gwynn majored in English and Communications at Greensboro College.
