Mic Potter

  • Title
    Assistant Coach

Mic Potter joined the Elon women’s golf program as an assistant coach ahead of the 2026-27 season, bringing one of the most decorated coaching resumes in college women’s golf history to the Phoenix. Potter will also serve as Elon’s interim head coach through Feb. 28, 2027, before Susan Rosenstiel officially begins her tenure as head coach on March 1, 2027.

Potter arrived at Elon following 43 seasons as a Division I head coach, including 21 seasons at Alabama and 22 at Furman. A National Golf Coaches Association Hall of Fame inductee, Potter won more than 70 tournaments as a head coach and helped lead both programs to national prominence.

During his tenure at Alabama, Potter transformed the Crimson Tide into one of the nation’s premier women’s golf programs. Alabama captured the 2012 NCAA Championship, the first national title in program history, and added three Southeastern Conference championships, four NCAA regional titles and 15 NCAA Championship appearances. The Crimson Tide won 40 tournament titles during his time in Tuscaloosa.

Potter was named the Women’s Golf Coaches Association National Coach of the Year in 2012 and 2018 and was a six-time SEC Coach of the Year honoree. He coached Honda Award National Player of the Year winners Brooke Pancake and Emma Talley, with Talley also winning the 2015 NCAA individual championship. Alabama produced 36 WGCA All-Americans, 72 WGCA All-Scholar Athletes and 66 All-SEC selections during Potter’s tenure, while 13 Crimson Tide golfers went on to earn LPGA Tour cards.

Before his time at Alabama, Potter spent 22 seasons as the head coach at Furman, where he led the Paladins to 36 tournament titles and 16 NCAA Tournament appearances. Furman finished as the national runner-up in 1987, posted six top-10 national finishes under Potter and qualified for NCAA Regionals every year beginning in 1993, when the format was established. He was an eight-time Southern Conference Coach of the Year and was inducted into the Furman Athletics Hall of Fame in 2022.

A 1977 graduate of Cortland State University, Potter majored in physical education and earned four varsity letters, including three in soccer and one in golf. He and his wife, Kim, have two sons, Ryan and Corey, two granddaughters, Anna and Caroline, and a grandson, Maddox.
