Former Greensboro College tennis standout, David Sutton, is in his third year as a volunteer assistant coach for the Elon women’s tennis team.

During his time at Greensboro College (2006-2009), Sutton was a four-time all-conference first team selection and was named the 2006-07 USA South Athletic Conference Men’s Tennis Player of the Year. During that 2006-07 season, he went undefeated in season play (12-0) at the number one singles position. Sutton finished 2006 as the No. 2 men’s open USTA player in North Carolina and was the singles finalist for the 2007 ITA Division III South Regional Championship. He was selected as his team’s most valuable player from 2006-08 and was the first person in Greensboro College’s history to be selected as a first alternate for the Men’s NCAA Singles Tournament. During his collegiate career, Sutton was ranked as high as No. 3 in the NCAA Division III South Regional rankings and as high as No. 12 in the NCAA Division III Men’s singles rankings.

Off the tennis court, Sutton made the Greensboro College Dean’s List all eight semesters and was named to the Academic All-America at-large third team in 2006-07. Sutton was the 2006-07 recipient of the Fred Joseph Award, the highest athletic award at Greensboro College, for the top-male student athlete. He was also the winner of the Most Outstanding Exercise and Sport Studies Student for the 2007-08 school year. Sutton is a member of Sigma Alpha Lambda National Leadership & Honors Organization, Phi Sigma Theta and the Xi chapter of Alpha Chi.

Sutton is currently a first-year student in Elon’s Doctor of Physical Therapy program.
