Brian Szutkowski is in his fourth year at Elon, serving as an assistant director of sports performance and the sprints coach for the Elon women’s track & field team. Szutkowski joined the Phoenix in August 2022.
During Szutkowski’s tenure, Elon has captured four CAA championships, including the 2023 Indoor and Outdoor Track & Field titles, the 2025 Outdoor Track & Field crown and the 2026 Indoor Track & Field championship.
In addition to his work with the track & field program, Szutkowski assists with the design and implementation of Elon football’s strength and conditioning program.
Prior to Elon, Szutkowski worked at his alma mater, Concordia University St. Paul, where he served as the sprints coach. In that role, he designed and implemented the annual training plan for the program’s sprinters while also working with athletes in the weight room. During his time with the Golden Bears, he helped develop a two-time NCAA Division II All-American in the heptathlon and decathlon, a Drake Relays decathlon champion, four all-conference performers and five school-record holders (heptathlon, decathlon, javelin, women’s 400 meters and men’s outdoor long jump).
Before his time at Concordia-St. Paul, Szutkowski served as the head of athletic development for Mizuno Northern Lights, where he oversaw 37 teams and 386 athletes while designing and implementing long-term athletic development plans for athletes ages 11–18. During his tenure, he coached one Minnesota Gatorade Player of the Year, multiple AAU national champions (Aspire Division) and 14 AAU All-Americans while helping reduce the program’s injury rate by 4.5%.
Szutkowski completed a virtual internship with Elon in 2020. He also previously interned with Concordia-St. Paul, assisting with women’s lacrosse, women’s soccer, men’s basketball and football.
A two-time graduate of Concordia-St. Paul, Szutkowski earned a bachelor’s degree in business management in 2019 and a master’s degree in coaching and athletic administration in 2020. He was also a two-sport student-athlete for the Golden Bears, playing defensive back on the football team and competing as a sprinter for the track & field program. He remains the school-record holder in the 100 meters with a time of 10.42 seconds.
Szutkowski holds certifications as a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, a USATF Level 1 certification and CPR/AED certification through the American Red Cross.
