A 30-year veteran of the Elon staff, Martin Baker serves as Elon’s Senior Associate Athletic Trainer. In this role, he works as the athletic trainer for volleyball and track and field teams while also serving as the Coordinator for Athletic Insurance. Baker is also an Assistant Professor of Health and Human Performance, serving as an Approved Clinical Instructor in Elon’s accredited program. From 1980-2007, Baker was the Head Athletic Trainer for Elon. He was the Director of the Athletic Trainer Education Program from 1998-2007, establishing the program, writing the self study and achieving accreditation as well as reaccreditation in 2005. During that time, he worked as an Assistant Professor of Health and Human Performance, teaching athletic training courses as well as first aid and wellness classes.Baker currently serves as the District Director of District III, Mid-Atlantic Trainers’ Assocation and serves on the National Athletic Trainers Association Board of Directors. He previously served as the secretary/treasurer of District III. In 2000, Baker was named the North Carolina Athletic Trainers Association College and University Athletic Trainer of the Year. Baker received a Masters of Science in Physical Education with a speciliazation in Athletic Traing from Indiana State University in August of 1980. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from State University of New York, College at Brockport in 1979.
