Christian Hubaker is in his second year as an assistant coach for the Elon cross country and track & field programs after joining the Phoenix in August 2024.
Since Hubaker’s arrival, the Phoenix has continued its winning ways, capturing three CAA championships: the 2025 Outdoor Track & Field title, the 2025 Women’s Cross Country championship and the 2026 Indoor Track & Field crown.
Working primarily with Elon’s distance athletes, Hubaker helped guide Quinn Smith to the 1500-meter title and Mikaya Jones to the 5,000-meter title at the 2025 CAA Outdoor Championships. The Phoenix women were dominant at the 2025 CAA Cross Country Championships, placing a program-record seven runners among the top 15 individually — including individual champion Katie Blount — to secure their sixth title in the past seven years.
Elon’s distance group also played a key role in the program’s 2026 CAA Indoor Track & Field championship, with Abby Beville capturing the mile title as well as multiple top-three finishes.
Hubaker came to Elon alongside head cross country coach Mark Rinker following one season at Eastern Michigan (2023–24), where he served as an assistant coach under Rinker for the Eagles’ cross country and track & field programs.
At Eastern Michigan, Hubaker worked primarily with the women’s distance athletes, administering workouts while managing recruiting responsibilities. He helped coach three individual Mid-American Conference champions in the mile, 800 meters and 3,000 meters, along with three runner-up finishers in the 5,000 and 10,000 meters. The Eagles’ women’s program also captured the 2024 MAC Indoor Track & Field championship during his lone season with the team.
Prior to Eastern Michigan, Hubaker spent the 2022–23 season on staff at his alma mater, the University of Michigan, where he assisted the coaching staff with recruiting operations.
As a student-athlete, Hubaker competed for the Wolverines from 2017–22 and earned second-team All-America honors in the steeplechase in 2021. He also served as team captain and graduated with a degree in sport management in 2022.
