Elon University Athletics

Mike Hernandez joined Elon Athletics as the Associate Director of Development in June 2025 and was promoted to Assistant Athletics Director for Development and Engagement in June 2026.

In his role, Hernandez leads strategic initiatives focused on stewardship, external engagement, alumni relations, and special events in support of Phoenix Club fundraising efforts. He works closely with campus and athletic partners to enhance philanthropy and create opportunities that advance the mission of Elon Athletics.

Prior to joining Elon, Hernandez served as an Administration Graduate Assistant for the Executive Staff and Director of Athletics at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. During his time with the Tar Heels, he helped execute special events and supported initiatives related to external relations, strategic communications, and athletic administration.

Before his time in Chapel Hill, He served as the Marketing and Fan Engagement Assistant at Rider University, where he supported marketing, promotions, and game-day operations.

Prior to his transition into athletics, Hernandez served in the United States Marine Corps from 2011 to 2021. During his decade of service, he held leadership roles as a Drill Instructor, Martial Arts Instructor, and Ordnance Technician.

He earned his bachelor’s degree in Sports Management and Business Administration from Rider University in 2023 and a master’s degree in Sports Administration from the University of North Carolina in 2025.
