RICHMOND, Va. – Senior forward
Jenifer Rhodes of Elon University women's basketball has been named the CAA's final Player of the Week for the 2016-17 season, the conference announced Monday.
The award marks the first CAA weekly honor Rhodes has won in her career. The senior had a stellar final game inside Alumni Gym last Wednesday, March 1, in matching her career high with 21 points on 10-of-16 shooting to go with nine rebounds, two assists and one steal. The night was capped with Rhodes the first player to cut a piece of the net with Elon clinching the regular season CAA title thanks to an 82-48 victory over UNCW – the largest CAA win to date for the program.
Rhodes' honor is the fourth CAA Player of the Week award for the Phoenix this season.
Shay Burnett claimed it twice on Dec. 26 and Feb. 6 and
Lauren Brown also earned it on Jan. 16.
Ra'Shika White and
Jada Graves also combined for three CAA Rookie of the Week honors throughout the campaign.
The Phoenix return to action Thursday, March 9, in the CAA Tournament at 12 p.m. It will take on the winner of No. 8 Towson and No. 9 Hofstra at the JMU Convocation Center in Harrisonburg, Va. Elon, the No. 1 seed in the tournament, swept both Towson and Hofstra during the regular season. Should the Phoenix move on to the semifinals, Elon would battle the winner of No. 4 William & Mary and No. 5 Delaware on Friday, March 10, at 4:30 p.m.
