RICHMOND, Va. – Elon University sophomore forward
Tyler Seibring has been named the Colonial Athletic Association men's basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the league announced on Friday, April 7.

The conference honors one Scholar-Athlete in each of its 21 championship sports. Nominees for the award must be a starter or important reserve on their team and must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.25. The winners were selected by a vote of the media relations directors at each CAA institution.

Seibring, who carries a 3.98 GPA as an economics and English double major, claims his first-career Scholar-Athlete of the Year honor from the league. He is also the program's first CAA Scholar-Athlete of the Year selection.

The Normal, Ill., native adds the honor to his numerous awards earned this season, including his CoSIDA Academic All-America accolade on March 2. He became the program's eighth player selected and the first Academic All-America honor since Drew Spradlin was named in 2011. Seibring also was awarded a spot on the CoSIDA Academic All-District 3 Men's Basketball Team for the first time.

The sophomore is a also a member of the Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society and has made the President's List and the Athletic Director's Honor Roll during his first three semesters at Elon.

In addition, Seibring was selected to the All-CAA Second Team and also tabbed a spot on the league's All-Academic Team. He was twice named the CAA Player of the Week during the 2016-17 campaign.

Seibring played and started in all 32 games his sophomore season. He led the Phoenix in scoring (14.4 ppg) and rebounding (6.9 rpg), both which ranked in the top-12 in the CAA. The Elon forward shot 47.1% from the floor, knocked down 60 three-pointers, and made nearly 40% of his attempts from beyond the arc. He scored double figures 23 times and had six games with 20 or more points.
