COLUMBIA, SC -- Playing its final regular season home match of the year, No. 10 South Carolina downed Elon 5-1 Sunday in non-conference men's soccer action on Senior Day at Stone Stadium.
The Gamecocks (11-4-2) got on the board first with a line drive by Jordan Quinn at the 5:34 mark. Quinn knocked in the cross from Joey Worthen to give USC a 1-0 lead. Just over three minutes later, Elon (8-11) evened the count with a goal by Brent McDowell.
A handball foul called on Elon would give Quinn his second goal of the match off of the direct kick, leading to a 2-1 halftime advantage for the Gamecocks.
In the second half, Kolby Runager, Udo Seidel Jr. and Anthony Stovall would each tally a goal for USC, who outshot Elon 22-7. Gamecock goalkeeper Michael Bachmeyer recorded one save while Phoenix goalie Paul Reuter posted five.
