Rowan Named National Lineman of the Week

WESTMONT, IL -- As announced by Don Hansen's National Weekly Football Gazette this afternoon, Elon junior left tackle Josh Rowan (Gainesville, GA) has been named the NCAA-IAA Tri-offensive Lineman of the Week for his performance in the Phoenix' last-minute 27-21 loss to No. 2 Georgia Southern on Saturday.

The 5-11, 280-pounder shared the honor with South Carolina State's David Aubrey and Montana State's Brent Swaggert. Rowan led Elon to 299 yards of total offense (including 194 on the ground) against the two-time defending national champion Eagles. Entering the game, the Georgia Southern defense was ranked fourth nationally in total defense (250.3 yards) and 30th in rushing defense (122.2).

Rowan turned in a team-best and career-high 84-percent grade (46 pluses in 55 plays) with three linebacker knockdowns while allowing zero sacks and zero penalties from his position. His accomplishment marked the third time in four weeks that an Elon player received national offensive lineman of the week accolades.

Rowan and the rest of the Phoenix will wrap up the season with a 1 p.m. contest at No. 6 Youngstown State this coming Saturday. The WBAG-AM (1150) broadcast begins at 12:15.
