ANNAPOLIS, MD -- Towson received first-half goals from Todd Lanher and Alfonso DeMares as the Tigers scratched their way to a 2-0 victory over the Phoenix in first-round action of the Navy Soccer Classic at the Glenn Warner Soccer Facility Friday.

Elon (0-1), who returns eight starters from last season's Big South runner-up squad, was outshot 13-8 by Towson (1-0) including 8-2 in shots-on-goal. Chad Heinicke attempted a game-high four shots for the Phoenix.

Elon goalie Paul Reuter went the distance, surrendering both Tiger goals while registering six saves. The Phoenix will rest Saturday before playing host Navy at 3:30 p.m. Sunday.
