CHARLOTTE, NC -- The Big South Conference declared Elon junior halfback Rashaud Palmer the Wingate Inn Offensive Player of the Week and Phoenix senior return specialist Arketa Banks the Big South Special Teams Player of the Week on Sunday afternoon.
Palmer rushed for a career-high 245 yards on just 16 carries for 15.3 yards per carry and two touchdowns, leading Elon to a 56-35 Homecoming victory over Liberty on Saturday afternoon. He scored on runs of 80 and 66 yards to pace the Phoenix to a commanding 35-0 halftime advantage against the Big South foe.
Banks returned a pair of kickoffs 57 yards for an average of 28.5 yards in Elon's win over Liberty. He also had a punt return of five yards to tally 62 total return yards for a 20.7 average. Altogether, Banks collected 90 all-purpose yards against the Flames in Saturday's victory.
Phoenix teammates Mike Warren and Dwayne Ijames were honorable mention selections for weekly conference accolades. Warren was a defensive pick while Ijames was considered for freshman honors.
Palmer, Banks, Warren, Ijames and the rest of the Phoenix (3-6, 1-1 Big South) will head to Charleston Southern this week for Saturday's 1:30 p.m. conference confrontation.
