Andrews Claims SoCon Player of the Week Honors

SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- Elon senior guard Holly Andrews has been selected the Southern Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for January 6.

A guard from Hudson, N.C., Andrews (pictured right) led the Phoenix to three wins over the holidays. She started with 21 points and five rebounds in a 72-53 win over American on December 30, followed by 18 points and four boards in an 81-68 win over Wofford. Andrews then poured in 34 points, going 11-of-11 from the free-throw line, in a 77-66 win over UNC Greensboro on January 5. The 34 point performance was one point shy of her career-high. She also tied a career-high with seven assists against American and Wofford.

On the week, Andrews averaged 24.3 points, 4.0 rebounds and shot 92.3 percent (24-26) from the free-throw line. She also picked up seven steals and 18 assists.

The honor was the first this season for Andrews who leads the Southern Conference in scoring with 19.8 points per game and assists with 4.33 assists per outing. She also currently ranks seventh all-time in scoring at Elon with 1,337 career points, 16 shy of sixth place.

Other top performances include Appalachian State’s Aisha Bryant (19 points, 3.5 rebounds), Chattanooga’s Katasha Brown (16 points, 5.5 rebounds), Davidson’s Courtney Laird (21 points, 6 rebounds), ETSU’s Jessica Lonon (14 points, 6.7 rebounds), Furman’s Tommi Paris (13 points, 1.8 rebounds), UNC Greensboro’s Jacinda Lambert (14 points, 5.2 rebounds) and Western Carolina’s Jennifer Gardner (16 points, 9.5 rebounds).
