ELON, N.C. – Elon University Director of Athletics Alan White announced today the resignation of Assistant Director of Athletics for Marketing and Home Event Operations Trip Durham. Durham leaves Elon after nearly 10 years to take a position at the University of Virginia as Director of Marketing beginning later this month.
Durham was promoted to Assistant Director of Athletics for Marketing and Home Event Operations in March 1998. Durham, who joined the Elon staff in 1995 as Director of Marketing and Promotions, also had responsibilities in the area of operations for all home athletic events, and coordinated the department’s successful marketing, radio and television efforts.
“While we regret losing the services of Trip Durham, we are excited for him in this new professional opportunity,” said White. “Trip has greatly enhanced our marketing and promotion efforts here and he will be sorely missed. He wore a lot of hats in our operation and his performance was exceptional.”
Durham came to Elon after three years as director of promotions for the Winston-Salem Spirits baseball team, where he generated advertising revenue while also coordinating promotions for the Carolina League team. In addition, he has served as public address announcer for Elon basketball, as well as other experience with the Burlington City Schools and the Burlington Indians baseball team.
Durham is on the board of directors for the National Association of Collegiate Marketing Administrators (NACMA). He has been on the board for four years and serves as the Second Vice President this year. In working with NACMA, Durham has been able to make an impact nationally and drive attention back to Elon.
Durham also chaired the Sports Development Council for the Alamance County/Burlington Convention and Visitors Bureau from 2001-03. The Sports Development Council is a division of the bureau that tried to identify and support sports initiatives and programs that drive money into the area with the interest of the county at heart.
He earned his teaching certificate in Secondary English Education from East Carolina University in 1990.
“Caroline (his wife) and I have a lot of gratitude for this institution. If it weren’t for the nurturing environment here, we wouldn’t be in the position we are today,” said Durham. “The opportunity in Charlottesville is going to allow me to diversify my resume and to learn the inner workings of a public institution as well as a I-A football program. The change is bittersweet for us.”
